Words to Live by: A Bible Study About Growing in Christ

This issue of Cross Before Crowns focuses of growing up (becoming more Christ-like) and growing out (reaching out to feed others, spiritually and physically, in the name of Christ).  As a new Christian the task may seem daunting, but God will never give us more than we can handle at any given time. As a seasoned Christian, there are times when we get off track and forget what being a Christian is all about and what we are supposed to do.

Hopefully, after reading this edition of Cross Before Crowns, you will have a better understanding of what you need to do, as a Christian, to grow in Christ and be like Christ.

After reading this issues articles, take some time this Spring to begin reading your Bible and praying faithfully, daily (if you are not already doing so) then read and study the following. Answer the follow up questions and discuss this Bible study with family and friends.

1. The Book of John, Chapter 15.

a. What is Jesus trying to say in verses 1 – 17?

b. Who is the vine and who are the branches?

c. What happens to a branch that does not produce?

d. What is Jesus talking about in verses 18 – 26?

e. Why will the world hate you if you follow Christ?

f. Can we please both God and the world?

g. What must you testify?

2. To grow as a Christian and to be more Christ-like, we need to begin as a humble servant.

a. Do a word search in the Bible then do a study on what it means to be a humble servant?

b. Who is a humble servant?

c. What does a humble servant do?

d. How was Jesus Christ a humble servant?

e. How can you be a humble servant?

f. What does it mean to be humble and having humility?

g. Are they the same thing?

3.  Read Galatians 5: 22-23.

a. What are the Fruits of the Spirit?

b. Why is it important to have the Fruits of the Spirit to grow in Christ?

c. Study out what each Fruit of the Spirit listed means.

d. Which Fruit of the Spirit is the most important and why?

4.  Read and study I Corinthians 13.

a. Charity can be summed up in a four letter word. What is it?

b. List the different types of charity named in this chapter.

c. Study out what each type of charity listed means.

d. Why do we, as Christians, need charity to grow?

Spend this season figuring out how you can improve your own personal spiritual walk and how you can put forth a renewed effort to GROW IN CHRIST!
