Meeting Physical Needs

1.   Angel Food Ministries.  Blessings by the boxful!  This food distribution program is a hand-up, not a hand out to people and families who have desperate food insecurities.  Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $30 per unit. Each month’s menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60. Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.   There are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions, or applications.Everyone is encouraged to participate.  Some churches even encourage participants to apply the money they saved to help someone else in need. 2. Salvation Army.  In this new century, The Salvation Army is serving more people in the USA than ever before. We are already seeing large increases in the number of Americans seeking the basic necessities of life – food, shelter, and warmth. More than 30 million people received help from The Salvation Army in 2008, but the magnitude of the mission facing The Salvation Army in communities throughout the United States remains great. 3. Samaritan’s Purse. The story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37) gives a clear picture of God’s desire for us to help those in desperate need wherever we find them. After describing how the Samaritan rescued a hurting man whom others had passed by, Jesus told His hearers, “Go and do likewise.”  Their emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disaster, war, disease, and famine.  They offer food, water, and temporary shelter,  meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives. 2.   K-LOVE is a non-commercial, listener supported Contemporary Christian music radio station. They provide programming service in the United States and is operated by EMF Broadcasting.  As of November 2008, K-Love’s programming is carried on 412 FM stations and translators. K-Love claims listenership of 125,000 people each week via the Internet and more than 1.46 million listeners weekly on the radio network. 3.   The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This home study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Christian Owned Franchises Worth Supporting

1.  Chick-fil-a Restaurant.  Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy is a devout Christian who has taught Sunday School for over 51 years and whose religious beliefs permeate the company to this day. The company’s official statement of corporate purpose says that the business exists “to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.” The chain invests heavily in community services (especially for children and teenagers) and scholarships. Cathy’s beliefs are also responsible for one of the chain’s distinctive features: All Chick-fil-A locations (company-owned and franchised, whether in a mall or freestanding) are closed on Sundays.
